7th-8th Band - Solo/Ensemble and Chair Tryouts

Hey band...updates on a couple of things:

  • We will NOT be going to Solo/Ensemble festival as it is listed on your Band Calendar, but we will instead be holding it at Lavaca. I do not have a specific date or time yet, but it will not be an all-day event, and will more than likely be held during the school day. As soon as I have more information, I will post it here and share it in band. All 8th grade students will play an individual solo; I have already started passing them out in sectional rehearsals.
  • Your chair tryout test will be Wednesday, February 7th, during band. Be prepared to play the following:
      • Anything from Visions of Aranjuez;
      • Anything from Courage March; and
      • Anything from #1-25 in your EE 2000 Book II ("The Red Book")
This is a graded test, and will be a part of your 3rd 9 weeks' grade--don't blow off
practicing for this!

Beginner Band - Practice Logs and Steak Dinner

Wow, that sounds like a weird combination...practice logs and steak dinners don't usually go together very well!

  • Beginners, please remember that weekly practice logs are required as a part of your grade in band. You are required to practice for at least 15 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week. This makes for a total of 75 minutes a week. Remember, this is the minimum, amount you should be practicing; more time spent playing your instrument will only help you improve faster. Practice logs are due every Tuesday. If you need help filling out the practice logs, let me know.

Now for the part about food!

  • The Beginner Steak Dinner, which is for every 6th grade band student WHO SOLD COOKIE DOUGH IN THE FALL will be this Thursday, February 1, in the bandroom at 5:00 p.m. We will have steak, and all the fixings, here for you to enjoy as a reward for being the top-selling class in the fall fundraiser. We will be done at 6:00 p.m.; please have your parents here to pick you up at that time. If you have any questions, ask me or Mr. Carter.
